A top nutritionist has revealed how one shot of olive oil each day could be the answer to several health and beauty problems. Abigail Roberts, a Sports Nutritionist at Bulk.com, has revealed how olive oil can have benefits for your skin, hair, and nails while also detailing how it acts as an aid for weight loss and reducing joint pain.
Roberts says that drinking olive oil every day for 30 days will produce “extraordinary” results as it is “one of the biggest superfoods.” She added:
“It is packed with antioxidant compounds, like vitamin E, oleacein, and oleocanthal. As well as compounds called polyphenols, which are phenomenal for your hair, skin, joints, and weight.”
Weight Loss
Having a shot of olive oil every day can help with your weight loss journey. Roberts references Ryan Seacrest as an example of someone who takes a shot of oil to help him lose weight. Explaining how it works, she said:
“Olive oil helps you lose weight because it is rich in monounsaturated fatty acids. These are known to help with weight loss by increasing your metabolism, reducing your appetite, and reducing your body fat.
“Studies have revealed a treatment group who were given extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) lost 80% more body fat than the control group who didn’t consume EVOO. In the long-term, olive oil continues to have positive effects on the body and keep the weight off or stable.”
Pain Management
According to Roberts, olive oil can also help those who suffer from inflammatory pain and rheumatoid arthritis. She said:
“The Mediterranean Diet- which is heavily focused on olive oil- is proven to help with cognitive function, cognitive decline, and dementia risk. This is because the polyphenols in olive oil act also as a natural painkiller and can even work better than ibuprofen.
“Studies have also confirmed the effectiveness of olive oil in controlling morning inflammatory pain of phalanges and knees among women with rheumatoid arthritis.”
Gut Health
Roberts believes that the most significant benefit of taking olive is its ability to heal the gut. Explaining how it does this, she said:
“The antioxidants in olive oil can help to repair and heal the gut lining. The components in olive oil such as vitamin E, oleacein, oleocanthal, and polyphenols all help to enhance and stimulate the diversity of the bacteria in the gut- especially the good bacteria.
“Olive oil consumption can also help encourage your intestines to absorb more vitamins and minerals from the foods you eat. It also helps to increase Bifidobacteria in the gut, which can increase the feeling of being full and have positive effects on weight and cholesterol.”
She does, however, warn against consuming olive oil on an empty stomach as it can sometimes have adverse effects.
Hair Improvement
In terms of aesthetics, drinking olive oil can also repair your hair. Roberts said:
“Olive oil is particularly full of healthy fatty acids, which are known to have significant benefits on hair health.
“Whilst many people will spend a fair amount of money on skin creams and hair masks, they tend to forget about their diet. What we put inside our bodies is just as important as what we put on the outside.”
Skin Improvement
People who suffer from dry skin should also consider experimenting with olive oil for a month or so. Explaining why, Roberts said:
“Olive oil is rich in antioxidants and skin-friendly lipids that can help address skin concerns like dryness or rough-feeling skin.”
