Life is a rollercoaster. It’s packed with moments that make us laugh, cry, and wonder what comes next.
As we are on this wild ride, we often realize that life isn’t always a walk in the park. Our eyes are opened, and many of us come to some realizations.
We soon notice that not everything is what we imagined it would be when we were kids. Here are some simple realizations people have now that they are grown up.
Changeability
Although a strange word, it has a simple meaning: nothing lasts forever. Many people have realized that they must enjoy the present and find the beauty in their lives. There is always a reminder that life does not last forever, and we should enjoy what we are doing now.
Regret
People feel as though their lives revolve around the choices they make. We often regret some of those choices later. However, these moments of remorse can help us grow and even lead to some self-discovery.
Loneliness
Although the world feels connected through social media and forums, many people feel like they are alone. Some even feel isolated from others. Understanding loneliness inspires us to search for meaningful connections and companionship.
Death
Everyone dies, and this uncertainty is the truth. It has led some people to realize that they need to live life with a purpose and enjoy the time they have with loved ones. Pretty much, be appreciative that they are alive and well.
Disappointment
Life’s twists and turns often cause our plans to change. Many of us have learned about disappointment at a young age, and it doesn’t get better. It will almost always be a part of your journey. But, when you are disappointed, you often find ways to grow and even become a little more resilient.
Unpredictability
It’s plain and simple: life is unpredictable. If you come to terms with this quickly, you’ll be able to plan and adapt to the challenges you didn’t see coming and become more flexible.
Injustice
Injustices are everywhere in our world, But confronting this truth allows us to be advocates for fairness and positive change. It’s necessary to stand up for what is right in the world today. One person said that when there is racism, discrimination, and unfair treatment of the lower/middle class, there must be people who stand up against it.
Self-Doubt
Self-doubt can follow you forever. But we all need to realize that self-doubt is something everyone has felt at least once. Embracing this and understanding that you will doubt your decisions every once in a while can help you lead a journey of self-compassion and self-assuredness.
Change of Priorities
As we grow, so do our priorities. The people around us will either accept these priorities or step away, and we need to learn to appreciate the changes in our desires and values. We will transform and grow on a personal level.
Missed Opportunities
Not every door can be opened, nor should it be. Missed opportunities are not just disappointments or losses. They also provide paths and allow us to gain a little more wisdom and become a little more resilient.
Unresolved Relationships
Some relationships may forever remain unresolved or fractured. As we grow, so do our relationships, and sometimes finding closure is just not in the cards.
Aging
A difficult realization for many is aging. Our bodies change, and aging is undeniable. However, accepting the beauty and wisdom in every stage of life can lead to a deeper appreciation of the journey.
Materialism’s Limitations
When we were younger, many of us always wanted the newest shoes, clothes, and cell phones. But as we grow, we quickly realize that possessions do not last forever and do not always bring joy. One person remembered the moment they realized they’d rather go on a vacation and make memories with their family than buy the newest television. They realized that the possession was just material wealth and that memories were worth more.
Resources
Who has time to think about global warming or pollution when you are hanging out with your friends or playing video games until 2 am? Our planet’s resources are limited, and as we get older, we often realize that we are responsible for our impact on the environment. We need to ensure we are using resources wisely and that there will be a planet for future generations.
Unpredictable Future
Finally, we quickly realize the future is unpredictable and that every day comes with an uncertainty. Many people agreed that they never realized how unpredictable life was until the COVID pandemic. Some didn’t even think something as strange and horrifying as that could actually happen in places other than the movies.
